20 June 2007 The Australian horticulture industry supply chain will continue to be a primary focus for Australian United Fresh (AUF) through its extensive membership and the relocation of its office to South Australia A recent Executive Committee meeting established the resolve of the current board of AUF to further support the growing industry in influencing policy and providing a unified voice. A review of the functions of the national office will see AUF relocated to South Australia as of 1st July 2007. “We believe the delivery and management of executive services through the Virginia Horticulture Centre, in SA, will enable our members to have a maximised return on their membership funds” said AUF National Executive Chairman, Mr Tony Demeijer. “The Virginia Horticulture Centre’s resources, industry and political contacts will ensure the future viability of our organisation and help to advance the common interests of the Australian horticulture industry” he said. In the last year AUF have introduced five new forums to take real opportunities and challenges to the public in a united manner. Amongst one of the forums is an Industry Promotion Committee who are working on promoting the success of horticultural businesses in achieving best practise standards across all areas of operation. “By promoting our industry’s successes, we give consumers more confidence in their food sources” said Mr Demeijer. Adding to the benefits provided by AUF has been the development of a database of links to national health promotional activities. The database, developed by the Health Promotion Committee will assist in directing public and industry enquiries for information more efficiently as well as making it more accessible and readily available. “The AUF Education forum is in the process of developing the background research to what innovations in training assist our educators in developing our human resources” he said. “Fresh Produce Watch continues to speak to media to correct misinformation and putting forward facts to enhance consumer confidence in the safety, cleanliness and wholesomeness of Australian fresh produce” he continued. Victoria Richardson will undertake the role of Executive Officer for AUF. Victoria has a wealth of experience dealing with horticultural issues across Australia, her marketing and communication skills will be of great benefit to AUF and its members.
