APPLICATION CRITERIA - 2008 ANCID $10,000 TRAVEL FELLOWSHIP AWARD - SPONSORED BY THE NATIONAL PROGRAM FORSUSTAINABLE IRRIGATION
The Australian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (ANCID) is keen to encourage and promote the development of young professionals in the irrigation industry.  As part of this program, ANCID is again offering a Travel Fellowship Award of $10,000 for a young scientific achiever in irrigation research and development.  The sponsor of this Award is the National Program for Sustainable Irrigation, a coalition of investors in sustainable irrigation research and innovation from throughout Australia.

 

Entry Details:

§         Applicants must hold a relevant professional qualification.

§         Applicants must not be over 40 years of age.

§         Applications addressing the key selection criteria must reach the ANCID Executive Officer by 10 July 2007

§         The winner will be required to:

 

-  complete the Travel FRellowship prior to APRIL 2008;

-  work with an ANCID mentor to further their professional development;

-  prepare a concise written report for ANCID and the sponsor (National Program for Sustainable Irrigation);

-  present this report at the ANCID Annual Conference in 2008; and

-  undertake a speaking tour to relevant national stakeholders.

 

Key Selection Criteria:

The National Program for Sustainable Irrigation sponsors this Award to provide an overseas travel opportunity to a young professional within the irrigation industry, in a nominated field considered important to improving the sustainability of irrigation in Australia.  As such, applicants will need to address the following selection criteria:

 

1.   A relevant professional qualification and research and development experience.

2.   Knowledge and understanding of the major strategic research issues facing the irrigation industry over the next 10 years.

3.   A vision for the irrigation industry.

4.   Demonstrated project management, leadership and innovation skills.

5.   Demonstrated communication skills.

6.   Proposed travel study tour plan indicating:

 

-     the objectives of the Fellowship including its significance in light of the strategic research issues identified in (2) above;

-     the proposed itinerary;

-     expected research and development outcomes/benefits from the Travel Fellowship;

-     estimated costs including any other funding sources proposed.

 

7.   Proposed method of communicating outcomes learnt from the Travel ellowship to the irrigation industry and irrigation science community.

 

Selection of Award Winner:

The winner will be selected by a panel comprising one representative of NPSI and two members of the ANCID Executive.

 

Presentation of 2007 ANCID Travel Fellowship Award:

The Award will be presented at the 2007 ANCID Annual Conference in Bundaberg, which is being held from 19 to 21 August 2007.
