Good evening, I have just finished roasting and peeling the first lot of chestnuts that we have had for 2010, and I can say that they rated 50%. Half were black and off. I hate that, especially when the skin comes off cleanly and the mouth starts watering. I paid $7.99kg, and don't know if price makes a difference to get good chestnuts. I don't mind paying for a good product, but it is hard to decide if a chestnut is good or not when they are not roasted and unpeeled. Where can I get chestnuts ready for roasting in the Western suburbs of Melbourne? What price should great chestnuts go for? Cheers!

I'm looking to purchase a chestnut roaster, an electric model which can do about 3 kg at a time.
